Ever heard of a camel spider?

This is a funny creature. It belong to the class Arachnida, but while all spiders are arachnids, not all arachnids are spiders. Strange indeed. Another common name for this creature is a wind scorpion, but it’s not a scorpion, either. The camel spider is of the order Solifugae, which is Latin for “those who flee from the sun”.

So yes, these creature, is neither a spider nor a scorpion. People are generally frightened of this creature. It is fast, thus the name “wind-scorpion”, because they run like the wind, and on only six of their eight legs at that. They are also very good climbers. They also have massive jaws. So yes, this creature, also known as the sun spider, looks like a spider, or a scorpion, but is neither.

Makes you think how some Christians are like this camel spider, or shall we say a wind scorpion. Just like when people look at this strange creature and they do not know what species it really is, based on its look is and behaviour, just so I’m sure the world looks at some Christians and wonder if they are indeed Christian or are they heathens?

Unlike the animal kingdom of thousands of species, in this world man either belongs to the light or the dark – either to the Kingdom of God of the kingdom of the devil. You are either a follower of Jesus, the Light, or the follower of the darkness. There is no middle path. Yet it seems some Christians want to follow both the light and the dark, and so their very conduct, appearance, behaviour, speech, and action is very confusing – are they a true disciple or a heathen?

When you look at the camel spider, you are definitely left confused, even a bit amazed, or frightened. Some Christians are also leaving people confused. Their actions are also a bit frightening, and not for no good reason. They praise God yet their actions are anything holy or pure. They say all the right things as a Christian, just like a spiders belonging to the arachnids family, but their fruit speak of a different story just like all arachnids are not spiders.

So not all who truly say these days say Lord, Lord are children of God. They want to be a spider and a scorpion, thus a Christian and a heathen. The Solifugae flees from the sun, so the question is, are these Christians fleeing from the Son of God or are they actually running towards Him? Yet their actions and their behaviour is perplexing, confusing and strange and makes you wonder if they truly want to belong to God’s Kingdom or would they rather flee from Jesus – the Light of the World – to hide in darkness?

The world is in a mess. The church is in a greater mess. Because so many Christians do not know what they want to be. Their appearance is all grand and great, so pious, yet they speak with a forked tongue. Strange indeed. ”2 Timothy 3 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come …. 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power”. The world also do not know if Christians are lovers of God or not. Yet, the spiritual realm knows who truly follows God and who only pretends to do so. You cannot fool God or the devil. So, we need to decide, and we need to decide now.

Are we a spider or a scorpion, thus a Christian who dwells in the presence of the Son or heathen who hides in darkness? For we cannot be a carnal Christian. It is time to choose.
